To the Parent or Guardian of our Antioch Student:
As you know, the University det~rmined in June last year that it would suspend
operations of the College effective June 30, 2008 with .intent to reopen in 2012 as a
revitalized College. As you also know, we have been in discussions for a couple of
months with a group known as the Antioch College Continuation Corporation with the
goal of transferring the College to them. They had hoped to obtain the necessary
approvals to continue the operations of the College uninterrupted. However, the
discussions have not resulted in an agreement at this time. We are writing to notify you
that after considerable review, Antioch University’s Board of Trustees has reconfinned
its earlier decision to move forward with the suspension of operations. Discussions will
continue with the ACCC but, regardless of whether or not an agreement is reached on
the transfer, the College wiII not operate next year because of the significant and
insurmountable financial, legal and academic obstacles in keeping the College open.
This is difficult news for all members of the Antioch community. ”
We want to assure you of two things: First, Antioch College will continue to operate
with full accreditation and authorization from all appropriate agencies through June 30,
2008. All of us here at Antioch College are committed to providing instruction and
services to our Antioch students through the end of this academic year. .
Second, qualifying 3rd and 4th year students will be able to earn their degrees under the
Degree Completion Plan approved by both the Higher Learning Commission of the
North Central Association and the Ohio Board of Regents. All students u”nableto
satisfy degree requirements under the degree completion plan wiII be assisted by the
Office of Transition in planning for their academic future.
The past seven months have been a difficult and uncertain time for all of us who love
Antioch. B~t all parties here on campus are working to give each student every
possible chance of success.
If you would like to discuss this or any other concerns, please contact Vice President
for Student Affairs Milt Thompson at (937) 769-1160. For questions about degree
completion or transition, please contact the Office of Transition at 937-681-5924.
Representatives will be available 10 AM to 10 PM until June 30, 2008. Please
encourage your student to make an appointment with a representative in the Office of
Transition as soon as possible as assistance is individualized and on a student-by
student basis.
We are in the early stages of this decision and updates will be posted to the Parent Page
of the antioch-co”Itege-:-eduweb-site–as-they-beee-me-av-ai-la91e.Please check this
resource frequently.
