A joint email from President Jane Fernandes and Board Chair Shelby Chestnut, sent early January 2025 under the subject “Preserving Our Mission,” responding directly to the HLC’s November 2024 Financial Distress designation. The letter attributes the designation to FY2022–2023 audit findings that also triggered heightened cash monitoring (HCM1) with the Department of Education, frames the situation as a sector-wide liberal-arts challenge rather than one unique to Antioch, and claims the College’s financial responsibility score is improving toward moving back “into the zone” by fiscal year end. Cites the College’s 2024 Federal Work College designation, its co-op partnership portfolio, and the SEE Plan as distinguishing strengths, and closes with a direct appeal for continued alumni and community support.
