Telephone meeting between Barbara Winslow, representing the Executive
Committee (“EC”) of the Antioch University Board of Trustees (“BOT”), and
Brandy Lee Ellis, Daniel Solis, Carol Braun, Hassan Rahmanian, Dietrich Delrieu-
Schulze, and Laura Fathauer, the delegation representing Antioch College.
These minutes were taken by Barbara Winslow. They were sent to and approved by
the delegation.
Background: The 02/01/02 meeting of the Antioch University EC meeting discussed the
proposed delegation from the College to the LA BOT meeting. The EC was concerned
about students, faculty, and staff making a sacrifice in terms of money and time, when
they would not be able to have a great deal of time to make presentations at the BOT
meeting. The EC asked EC member Barbara Winslow to discuss this concern with the
members of the delegation.
Barbara Winslow made a two-fold suggestion to the College delegation: a) since there
were serious time constraints at the LA BOT meeting, and therefore not possible to give
the proposed College delegation much time on the agenda, then perhaps they would
consider not coming to LA. And b) regardless of the decision about LA, we would be
meeting in Yellow Springs March 7/8 and would like to engage in dialogue with the
Antioch College Community then. The EC would prefer to have the discussions with the
College Community. Winslow also suggested that if they wished to hang up, discuss the
suggestion and call her back, that would be fine.
The College delegation said that they did not need time to themselves to respond. Like
the BOT members, they were willing to make the sacrifice of time and money; they had
generous help from several people, with tickets and room accommodations and, given the
urgency of the situation, they wanted to meet with the BOT. Winslow assured them that
the EC of the BOT would still meet in YSO in March. Furthermore, the College
delegation would be welcome to all open BOT meetings. The delegation should be aware
that not all of its meetings are open meetings. Winslow said that the EC would discuss
the possibilities of the College delegation being invited guests of certain committee
meetings that may be closed to the general population. However, Winslow made it clear
that the College delegation would, in all likelihood, feel that they were not accorded
enough time. The delegation understood the parameters outlined by Winslow.
In my opinion, this was a hopeful, positive step forward in beginning communication
between the BOT and the College Community.

These are the folks the community nominated and JointCil elected to go to
the Los Angeles Board of Trustees meeting. They have been given a half
hour slot to present their issues and answer questions to the full Board.
They will also be attending the rest of the open Board committee meetings.

Carol Braun has been the Comnunications Technician for the Communications
Department since 1987. She has also taught Film Theory and Journalism
classes at the College. She has served for the past three years on the
College's Budget Committee and in Fall '01 on the Budget Planning
Committee, which was chaired by Jim Hall. Within the Union of Electrical
Workers 767, she has served as Recording Secretary, Steward and is
currently Chief Steward.
Brandy Ellis is graduating this spring as a Cultural and Interdisciplinary
Studies major with a focus in journalism. She currently serves on
Administrative Council (AdCil), has served on Community Council (Comcil),
helped edit and write for The Third Blaze, and the Antioch Record, and is
running for Community Manager 2002-03. One of her coops was in College's
Office of Admissions and Financial Aid as assistant to the On-Campus Visit
Coordinator.
Laura Fathauer '95 is the Network Administrator in Technology Resources.
She holds a Masters Degree in Calculus from Wright State University and a
B.A. from Antioch College in Mathematics.
Pat Linn is Dawson Professor of Cooperative Education and Professor of
Psychology and Women's Studies. Pat is a licensed psychologist and a
member of the Society for Research and Child Development. She teaches
human development, research methodology, and women's studies. Her current
research is on a life span study of how students leam when they alternate
between work and study, focused on a group of Antioch College graduates
from 1946-1955. Pat served on the Budget Planning Committee of Fall '01,

which was chaired by Jim Hall.
Hassan Rahmanian is Associate Professor of Administration and Management
within the Social and Global Studies Area. He teaches management courses
including Management in the Third World, Comparative Management, and
Transnational Corporations. He also teaches core social science course
including Research Methods and Data Analysis. Hassan serves on
Administrative Council (AdCil) and this past Fall served on the Budget
Planning Committee, which was chaired by Jim Hall.
Dietrich Delrieu Schultz is Cultural and Interdisciplinary Studies major
with a focus in communications and only his senior project to complete,
Dietrich is serving as Community Manager for 2001-2002. He is an
ex-officio member of AdCil and served on the Budget Planning Committee in
Fall 01, which was chaired by Jim Hall.
Danny Solis is a first-year student in his second term on campus. He was
elected to Community Council this term and serves as Chair. He is
co-coordinator of the campus organization BAMN (By Any Means Necessary,
formally known as Third World Alliance). Danny served on the Budget
Planning Committee, which was chaired by Jim Hall.
