Director, Office of Management Services, Program Division
Head unit providing management, budgetary and grants administration support to the foundation’s
operations worldwide. Oversee the work of 35 grants administrators, budget management and other
staff in the foundation’s New York headquarters and provide management oversight and support to the
foundation’s twelve overseas offices. Coordinate development and monitor implementation of the
Program Division’s management budget (approximately $53 million in the 2004-2005 fiscal year).
Have major responsibilities for shaping the foundation’s global information technology policies and
for initiatives that ensure the timely and responsive delivery of the foundation’s funding to grant
applicants. Currently serve as co-chair of a presidential task force charged with strengthening the
foundation’s accountability systems and grant monitoring and program learning practices. Manage
recruitment and in-post training of the heads of the Foundation’s overseas offices. Oversee the
Program Associate program, a two-year professional development fellowship, and supervise the
foundation’s “Good Neighbor” grant-making activities in mid-town Manhattan. [Served concurrently
as Acting Representative of the foundation’s office for India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, in New Delhi,
January to June 2003.1

Representative, Office for the Middfe East and North Africa
Leader of the Ford Foundation’s operations in the Middle East and North Africa. Responsibilities
included setting overall program directions, leading and supporting a staff of five program officers and
18 administrative and support employees, and managing relations with the Egyptian government, the
press and various constituent groups. Giant-making programs focused on Egypt and the Occupied
Palestinian Territories in the fields of human rights, governance, peace and security, community
development, reproductive health and arts and culture.

Assistant Representative andProgram Officer
Headed the foundation’s Southern Africa regional sub-office in Windhoek. Responsible for setting
program directions in Namibia and managing grant programs supporting the development of a strong,

Coordinated activities in Sub-Saharan Africa of a major US academic center concerned with land
reform and rural development. Worked with affiliated African research centers and funding agencies
in developing research proposals and securing financial support, principally for projects on land tenure
reform and community management of natural resources. Served as principal investigator on
collaborative research projects in Uganda with the

Institute for Social Research, in Mali with
the National Forestry Department, in Nigeria with the University of lbadan and the University of Ife, in

I carried out studies on the challenges facing low-income communities living in the Drakensburg
Mountain region of Lesotho in managing their natural resources sustainably. Employed a variety of
quantitative and qualitative research methods and advised community leaders and government officials
on interventions that would ensure equitable access to natural resources while improving their long-

UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, Bor, Southern Sudan
Regional Phnning Consultant, National Council for the Development of the Jonglei Canal Area
Conducted research on the impacts of the Jonglei Canal, then under construction, on the land use and
livestock management practices of pastoralists residing in the canal region. Prepared a regional plan
for the development of social services and roads.

Regional Planner and Land Use Planner, ViUage Area Development Program
Regional planner for the Kalahari Desert region of Botswana. Undertook land use surveys and led
planning team in preparing agricultural land use plan for a four-village area in northern Kgalagadi
District Edited a land use planning manual for use by district planners in Botswana. Employed by the
Government of Botswana, in position ftmded by the Swedish International Development Authority
(SIDA).

In 1990 and 1991, designed and coordinated a training course on land policy and land reform in Southern
Africa, held at the UW-Madison from February 25 to May 3, 1991. Participants were staff members of
the African National Congress and civic organizations involved with land policy development for
post-
