CONSIDERING THAT,
Antioch College defmes itself as a cooperative education liberal arts institution,
ACKN@DGING THAT,
Liberal Arts education must be delivered through a broad spectrum of disciplines and an
academically diverse faculty,
REALIZING THAT,
Student learning, satisfaction and retention depend on a stable number of faculty
positions below which the ability to effectively deliver a the Liberal Arts program will be
seriously jeopardized,
NOTING THAT,
With the new curriculum, the faculty must deliver a full program to upper-level students
while providing a broad range of choices to new students, as well as an increased
advising responsibility,
ALSO REALIZING THAT,
s 15 faculty rotate into the Core Program and attend to intermediate and advanced
courses, vising, In epen ent studies, and senior project mentoring also may present
particular challenges
ADMITTING THAT,
Student success is directly related to the quality and stability of the faculty.
AFFIRMING THAT,
Antioch Faculty are dedicated to delivering high quality, individually-intensive advising
in the new curriculum and that commitment and experience of tenured and tenure-track
faculty allow a quality of advising that is simply not possible for adjunct and visiting
faculty:
RECALLING THAT,
Because we are a co-op college, it is especially important that students know they will
return from co-op to a consistent presence of faculty and curricular offerings and will
– receive faculty guidance as they reflect on and leanifrom their co-op jo”bs,
WE THE FACULTY,
Unanimously resolve, this 27th•Day of March, to make known our deep concern
regarding the further diminishment of the number of full-time tenured and tenure-track
faculty positions, and
CALL UPON OUR PRESIDENT AND DEAN,
To (1) take all necessary measure to stabilize faculty positions at their current 2005-2006
numbers, (2) to fill any vacated position within one year, and (3) to develop a plan to
restore faculty positions lost in recent years as student enrollment increases.
