“what happened to michael casselli”

Michael Casselli is a tenured professor of sculpture and installation at Antioch College. In February 2026 the college terminated his appointment without convening the Faculty Promotion and Review Committee or the Board of Trustees — the bodies the Faculty Personnel Handbook specifies for termination for cause. The Board rescinded the termination in March 2026 and ordered an FPRC review, but Casselli has since described his status as suspended indefinitely with conditions, which he and the AAUP call a de facto firing without the due process tenured faculty are owed.

The American Association of University Professors has written to President Jane Fernandes about the case three times, including a first letter on May 14 and a third on June 29, 2026. Save Antioch tracks the full story in its Casselli category.
